2010 Septembe issue of Vogue!

September 2010 Vogue - Part 1 - Advertisements

What large Brands to entice us, what adorable articles to sustain us, and what a heavy bible to encase it all. At 726 pages not quite their largest issue (September 2004 issue was 832 pages) it is still a weighty coffee table book, not just a magazine.

I'll start with the ads because that is how we all read Vogue... Ads then Editorial then Articles then Ads again. A yummy fashion sandwich (On low carb bread OF COURSE!)(Hold the mayo)!

This September issue I saw a plethora of fur.

When I say "fur" you say "Chanel". Or at least you should because almost every single piece on their Fall runway show was either a complete fur suit or had hints of fur from the shoes to the hats. Fur is in every campaign from Prada, Michael Kors, Fendi (as usual), Dolce and Gabbana, Donna Karan, Gucci and many more.

Next I noticed the garments they advertised this year compared to last are almost couture pieces. What I mean by that is the ready to wear collections are becoming much more avant-garde and the ads that usually showcase very wearable clothes, are showing clothing that has a true life of their own this year. All the Advertisements in Vogue are obviously paid by the advertisers so you would think they would place saleable pieces (which they have been in the very recent past) in their ads. This year it seems there has been less focus on Couture and a much greater focus on Edgy PrĂȘt-a-Porter. Makes sense fiscally I just hope this trend ceases and desists; if not Couture may eventually be nonexistent. =(
Some examples of this are:
DKNY Full Fur (likely Faux) full length vest? Akward.
Christian Louboutin Skyscraping Thigh high's with extendo whip like zip pulls! So edgey! So Sexy!
Everything from Bottega Veneta including but not limited to a full ill fitting onesey (did I mention it's tapered. I don't think Gaga would even wear this.)
Miu Miu. I like mustard dresses with metal flowers as much as the next kid but that sounds Couture to me... no?
Tommy Hilfiger - Just Kidding BARF!

So you see these normally wearable brands (Except for maybe Bottega) are putting out extraordinary pieces in this September issue of Vogue which... lets face it, mould the opinions of millions of people who view these ads and ultimately define where their spend is going this Fall. Good? Bad? We'll see.

Next up - Lace!

Sexy Sultry Lacey Lace! It's all over this book of books. Via Spiga, Jimmy Choo, Nina Ricci, Nicholas Kirkwood and Celine. I think every woman needs lace. Somewhere.

Finally Animal Print

Like I have to mention Dolce and Gabbana, their whole collection this season is Full leopard on leopard. All leopard all the time! a tuxedo of Leopard from shoes to scarf!
Other designers worth mentioning are Roberto Cavalli and Celine

Stay tuned for the Editorials in Part 2 of September 2010 Vogue.
